Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Dwas Woot LLC, doing business as Cell Surveys ("we", "our", or "us"), collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Cell Surveys: Signal Heatmap apps for iPhone and Android, our web dashboards, and this website, cellsurveys.app. Section 1 covers the apps and dashboards; Section 2 covers this website.

1. Information We Collect in the Apps

Location Information

We collect precise location data from your device, including:

  • GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude, rounded to about 1 meter, and altitude)
  • Location accuracy and source
  • Speed and direction when moving
  • Barometric pressure and floor level where your device provides them
  • Timestamps

We collect location data while the app is in use and, if you allow it, in the background. Location data is essential for mapping network coverage and for drive history and mileage.

Cellular Network Information

We collect information about the cellular network your device is using, including:

  • Carrier and network codes
  • Cell and area identifiers and channel
  • Signal strength and quality measurements
  • Network technology type (LTE, 5G, etc.)

Where a device does not report signal strength to apps, the app estimates it by timing small requests to public DNS servers operated by Google and Cloudflare. This data is used to map cellular coverage and signal quality.

WiFi Network Information

Depending on your device, the app records either every WiFi network it can detect, including personal hotspots, or only the network you are connected to. For each network we collect:

  • Network name (SSID)
  • A scrambled access point identifier (the router's hardware address is combined with your account identifier and hashed before upload)
  • Signal strength, frequency, channel, and security type
  • Response time to your router on devices that record only the connected network

Bluetooth Device Information

For each nearby Bluetooth device the app detects, we collect:

  • A scrambled device identifier (the device's address is combined with your account identifier and hashed before upload, so it cannot be matched across users)
  • Signal strength and whether it is a Bluetooth Low Energy device

Bluetooth device names are not uploaded; they stay on your device.

Motion and Sensor Information

On devices that support it, the app uses motion activity (for example, whether you are driving), the barometer, and the compass sensor to improve readings and detect trips.

Mileage, Trips, Places, and Vehicles

  • Mileage and trips are calculated on our servers from your uploaded location readings: daily distance, trip start and end times, and trip start and end points. Those points are converted to approximate addresses (to about 110 meters) using OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Trips you hide and the work or personal labels you give trips are stored with your account, so they match in the apps and the web dashboard.
  • Saved places you create (label, type such as home or work, location rounded to about 110 meters, and radius). For Cell Surveys Pro, we also suggest places by finding locations where your trips often start or end; the apps look up a suggested place's address with the phone's built-in map service (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android).
  • Vehicle profiles you enter.

Property Parcel and County Information

When you view property parcels, the map area you are viewing is sent to our servers, which look up public parcel records (which can include owner names) from county assessor GIS servers. If our servers are unavailable, the app may contact the county server directly, which then receives your IP address and map area. To know which county data to load, we store the county where you first uploaded readings, together with that first location. County lookups use your device's geocoder (Apple or Google), the FCC Area API, and the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder.

Device and App Information

  • Device model, manufacturer, and name
  • Operating system and app version
  • A random app installation identifier (on iPhone it is kept in the device keychain, so it remains after the app is reinstalled)
  • Mock location detection (to ensure data accuracy)
  • App integrity checks (Apple App Attest or Google Play Integrity, through Firebase App Check) that confirm requests come from the genuine app. The web dashboards use Google reCAPTCHA for the same purpose.

Account Information

You sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password. We receive your email address, display name (if you share it), and an account identifier. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email address, in which case we receive a relay address from Apple. Passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us.

Optional Features

  • AI assistant — If you add your own API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, or another provider you choose, the app sends the survey data you ask about (its columns and sample rows) directly from your device to that provider. Your key is stored on your device. The provider's terms and privacy policy apply to that data; we do not receive it.
  • Google Drive backup — If you turn on Drive backup or upload a survey to Drive, the app saves copies of your survey files to your own Google Drive. The app can only access files it creates there.
  • iCloud Drive backup (iPhone) — If you turn on iCloud Drive backup in Settings, the app copies your survey files to the app's folder in your own iCloud Drive, and on a new install it can restore your earlier history from there. Apple stores these files under your Apple Account; we do not receive them. Signing out removes the restored copies from the device; the backups in iCloud Drive stay until you delete them in the Files app.
  • Floor plans and share links — Floor plans you upload through a web dashboard are stored with your account. A signal map share link you create can be opened by anyone who has the link until it expires (1 to 90 days, 30 by default).
  • Notifications — If you turn on mileage summaries in the app, we store that device's push notification token, its time zone, and which summaries you chose, to send your weekly and monthly mileage summaries. Turning them off or signing out removes the device. If you enabled notifications in the web dashboard, we store a push token for that browser.

Subscription and Purchase Information

If you subscribe to Cell Surveys Pro, Apple or Google processes the payment. We never receive your card or other payment details. We and our subscription processor, RevenueCat, receive a record of the purchase linked to your account identifier: the product, price and currency, the store, purchase and renewal dates, whether a free trial applies, and whether the subscription is active, cancelled or refunded. We use it only to unlock Pro features on your account across your devices and to answer support requests. When you delete your account, we delete this record and ask RevenueCat to delete its customer record; Apple and Google keep their own purchase records under their policies.

Web Dashboards

The web dashboards for mileage and parcels are part of the apps for this policy. They use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, only to count page views and map use, which sets the _ga cookies described in Section 2. Google reCAPTCHA sets a _GRECAPTCHA cookie on google.com, kept for 6 months, for bot and abuse protection. The dashboards also store preferences (theme, onboarding progress) and sign-in state in your browser's local storage, and cache your trip and survey data in IndexedDB to load faster. That cached data stays on your device.

2. This Website

This section applies to this website, cellsurveys.app. The apps contain no advertising and no advertising or analytics trackers, and this website has no advertising either.

Analytics

We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics, and nothing else. Google Analytics records the pages you view, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and clicks on the App Store and Google Play links and on our email address. We use it only to understand how the website is used. This website does not use advertising cookies, Google Ads, Microsoft Advertising (UET), or any other advertising or remarketing tag.

Website Security

Cloudflare delivers and protects this website and processes your IP address and request data to block malicious traffic.

Analytics

  • Understand how this website and the web dashboards are used

We do not use your survey, mileage, or location data for advertising, marketing, or profiling, or for any purpose other than providing the app's features and coverage maps.

4. Information We Share

Public Coverage Map

Each day we publish a crowd-sourced coverage map built from the last 30 days of cellular readings from all users. It shows, for squares about 110 meters across, the average signal strength, the most common carrier, and how many readings the square contains. It includes no account, device, or time information. Anyone can view it. In areas with few readings, a square may reflect a single contributor's readings.

Fleet Members

If you join a fleet (a group of users who share survey data), your survey data is aggregated with other fleet members' data. Fleet members can view aggregated heatmap data from the group, but cannot see individual members' raw data or identify which data came from which member. Joining a fleet is voluntary and requires a fleet token and PIN.

Share Links You Create

Anyone with a signal map share link you create can view that map until the link expires.

Service Providers and Lookup Services

We use the service providers listed in Section 10 to host and run the apps, dashboards, and this website. Address, county, and parcel lookups send coordinates or a map area to the services described in Section 1.

No Advertising Platforms

We do not share app data, survey data, location history, or account information with advertising platforms.

Legal Requirements and Business Transfers

We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others. If our business is sold or merged, information may be transferred to the new owner under this policy.

We do not sell personal information.

5. Data Retention

  • Uploaded survey readings (location, cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth) - 365 days, then automatically deleted (deleted files can be recovered for 7 more days); working copies used for processing expire after 30 days
  • Daily mileage logs - 45 days
  • Monthly mileage archives, trip history, saved and suggested places, vehicles, floor plans, and your county record - Until you delete them or your account
  • Upload statistics - 90 days; samples of rejected readings kept for quality checks - 8 days
  • Lookup caches (parcel, county, and address results, stored by location rather than by user) - 1 to 90 days
  • Daily coverage summaries (signal totals per ~110 meter square and a scrambled list of contributors, used to build coverage maps) - Up to 366 days; rebuilt without your readings after you delete your account
  • Server logs - 30 days
  • Database backups - 7 days
  • Account information and purchase records - Until you delete your account
  • Fleet membership data - Until you leave the fleet or delete your account
  • Emails you send us - As long as needed to respond and for our records; email us to have yours deleted
  • Website cookies - As listed in Section 2

The public coverage map is rebuilt daily from the last 30 days of readings and replaces the previous version.

6. Your Choices and Controls

Data Collection

Before the app collects anything, its welcome screen explains what it records and why. Continuing turns on recording and uploads; recording in the background also requires you to allow background location access. You can turn data collection off at any time in the app's Settings, which stops automatic recording and uploads. A survey you start yourself still records to your device.

Permissions

You control data access through your device settings. You can deny or revoke permissions at any time, though this may limit app functionality.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data by:

  1. Using the "Delete account" option in the app's Settings
  2. Or emailing [email protected] from the email address associated with your account

Deleting your account in the app removes it and its associated personal data (survey data, location history, mileage, places, vehicles, floor plans and share links, and account information) right away, apart from copies in backups and recoverable storage, which expire within 7 days. For requests by email, we delete your data within 30 days. Readings already included in the public coverage map remain there until it is rebuilt without them. Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it with Apple or Google. Step-by-step instructions, and exactly what is deleted and kept, are on our Delete Your Account and Data page.

Your Rights

Depending on your location (e.g., GDPR in the EU/EEA, CCPA/CPRA in California, and other U.S. state laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise them, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your request using the email address on your account.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, app integrity checks, and automatic data expiration. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children's Privacy

Our apps and website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. By using our apps and website, you consent to this transfer.

10. Third-Party Services and Links

We use third-party services to operate the apps, dashboards, and this website. Their privacy policies apply to data they process:

This website links to the App Store and Google Play, and may link to other external sites; we are not responsible for their privacy practices.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Services after changes constitutes acceptance. For material changes, we may provide in-app or email notice where feasible.

On October 10, 2026, the apps' privacy policy moved to this website. What it says about the apps and web dashboards is unchanged in substance; Section 2 now describes this website.

12. California and Other U.S. State Privacy Rights

In the last 12 months we collected these categories of personal information, from you and your devices, for the purposes described above: identifiers (account identifier, email address, device and installation identifiers, IP address); commercial information (subscription purchases); internet activity (website and dashboard use); precise geolocation; and inferences (suggested places drawn from your trips). We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising. We use precise geolocation only to provide the app's features and coverage maps.

If you are a resident of California or another state with a consumer privacy law, you may have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and access it
  • Correct inaccurate personal information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights

To make a request, email [email protected]. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask the agent for proof of authorization and verify your identity.
